About the Artist

JACK STAYER

As a young boy, Jack really enjoyed creating “things” with his hands. It began with simple drawings and carvings. Thanks to his mother’s urging, he took a basic art class when he was a senior in high school. Jack’s interest in art was piqued and he began a lifelong creative journey. After 40 years of owning a highly successful insurance brokerage company, creating Art Glass became his second calling.

The beauty of stained glass always mesmerized Jack, and in the early 80’s, Jack took his second art class, Copper-Foiled Stained Glass. This art medium incorporated the things he loved—drawing and creating with his hands. But he soon discovered the real challenge in this type of art: It is one thing to draw something, and it is another to draw it in pieces to be hand cut out of glass, while maintaining the color and design flow throughout the piece. He had to learn how to create this type of art work with the structural integrity necessary to allow it to be hung in a window or displayed on a desk.

Twenty years ago, Jack found himself attracted into another art glass medium called Glass Fusing. His idea was to create his own fused glass designs for use in his copper-foiled stained glass pieces, thereby finally achieving his ultimate glass artist goal of creating one-of-a-kind art glass. Today, Jack’s three-dimensional art glass incorporates a unique blend of traditional stained glass, his custom-designed fused glass, and stunning sculptured soldering and patina work. His love for the Northwoods is visible in his work. He has created a style so detailed and exquisite that one can’t help but wonder, “How did he do that?”

So, whether you’re a fan of fine art glass or just someone who appreciates unique and gorgeous pieces of art, you’ll find Jack’s work stunning and inspiring.

“This work Is extremely time consuming and tedious. But, the results speak for themselves because each work is one-of-a-kind, and created with the beauty, detail and structural integrity I expect from my pieces. If you don’t play hockey with them–they will last forever, and that’s a piece of me that will last forever.”
